Overview

Obsessive compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) is a chronic maladaptive pattern of excessive perfectionism, preoccupation with orderliness/detail, and need for control over one’s environment. Despite its prevalence (estimated at 6.5% of the population), most clinicians are not aware of how to treat OCPD.

Drs. Pinto and Wheaton will review the core features of OCPD, how the condition impacts functioning, and how it can be differentiated from OCD and other conditions.

Then they will focus on cognitive behavioral therapy interventions for the maladaptive traits and behaviors of OCPD and will demonstrate specific approaches for presenting problems such as behavioral inflexibility, procrastination, and difficulty making decisions.

Finally, Drs. Pinto and Wheaton will discuss the challenges of working with these patients and offer ways of overcoming treatment obstacles.

Offered by the Gunderson Personality Disorders Institute.
